Poros Kefalonia

Poros is situated 41 km southwest of Argostoli. It has a population of 1.100 inhabitants. It is a small picturesque village and port.

The landscape of the area is stunning. It has dense vegetation and a clear blue seas with an excellent beach. Poros is popular with walkers with a popular walk being to the famous monastery of Atros about 3km in a north-westerly direction.

Poros has a main square with some tavernas, shops and cafes. The road leading in to Poros passes through an impressive gorge. and according to myth the rock formation was created by the feet of Hercules.


During the summer, look out for the famous Philharmonic School of Kefalonia who put on numerous concerts.

Poros has plenty of self-catering accommodation many accepting pets, some even have kennels on the balconies for them.

Poros has/is a ferry port with ferries operated by Ionian Ferries and Strinzis Lines. It has a daily ferry service between Kefalonia and mainland Greece. Poros is also a good place from which to travel over to the islands of Ithaca and Zante.
